ORLANDO, Florida, March 21. DON Swartz has coached some impressive swimmers, including Olympian Rick DeMont, and after more than 40 years in the sport, he’s seen it go through many changes, while some things stay the same.
In this video interview at the NCSA junior nationals, the American Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Fame member talks about the new mentality athletes have that is helping them improve in the sport. On the coaching side, he said more coaches are sharing information, not just in the United States, and the Internet is making that possible in a much bigger way than it was in the 1970s or 1980s. Now working at North Bay Aquatics with one of his former swimmers, Ken DeMont, he talks about working with not only the swimmers who thrive, but with those who struggle and need his help to find their motivation and succeed in the sport.
