Chase Kalisz added a second Winter Nationals title in the 400 IM Friday evening, after already winning the 200 IM Thursday. But his time was almost six seconds short of his own American record, set earlier this year at the NCAA championships.

After the race, Kalisz explained in an interview with Swimming World that the swim had been too sloppy for his liking, and he explained that that’s why he needs racing experience so badly, even at this time of the year. Kalisz also discussed his progress in the long course pool, explaining how his two World titles this summer were only a step towards bigger goals.

Kalisz also provided an interesting answer when asked if he thinks regularly about world records.
