Versatile Max Verheyen Commits to Loyola University (Maryland)

NEW COMMIT: Loyola University of Maryland has gained a new in-state commitment for the fall of 2019 from Baltimore, Md. Native Max Verheyen.
Verheyen does his club swimming with Eagle Swim Team under head coach Scott Ward and owns four Winter Junior time standards. He most recently competed at the Retriever Classic where he won the 200 IM with five additional top-3 finishes. Verheyen achieved nine lifetime bests at the Speedo Holiday Cup in December and concluded his summer long course season with a sixth-place showing in the 400m IM at Richmond Futures. A current senior at Gilman School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American also placed fifth in both the 200 breast and 400 IM at Christiansburg Speedo Sectionals last March.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m very happy to commit to Loyola. Coach Brian’s and Coach George’s energy and commitment to the program are incredible and I can’t wait to see how I progress under both of them. Combined with the family feel of the team, I’m so excited to be a greyhound for the next four years!!”
His best times include:
- 1000 free – 9:28.48
- 200 breast – 2:04.78
- 200 IM – 1:50.95
- 400 IM – 3:59.63
Verheyen’s versatility will make an immediate impact when he suits up for the Greyhounds as a member of the class of 2023. His best 1000 free and 400 IM time would’ve ranked first on their lineup last season and he would’ve scored in the B-final of both IMs as well as the 200 breast at the 2018 Patriot League Championships.
