ATHENS – Carmel Swim Club’s Veronica Burchill, the 14th-ranked recruit in Collegeswimming.com‘s class of 2016 rankings, has verbally committed to swim for the University of Georgia beginning in the fall of 2016.
Burchill, a member of USA Swimming’s 2014-2015 National Junior Team in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly, announced via Twitter today that she has made her college decision. Burchill will be a huge addition to the Bulldogs’ lineup in those events, with personal bests of 22.29 in the 50 free, 48.48 in the 100 free and 52.26 in the 100 fly. Her 100 free time would have made the consolation final at this year’s NCAA Championships, while her 50 free and 100 fly times would’ve placed just outside the top 16.
Burchill has already posted four Olympic Trials qualifying times as well, in the 50m free (25.71), 100m free (55.89), 100m fly (59.28) and 200m fly (2:13.10). She is also a great relay swimmer, as she owns three national high school relay records at Carmel High School in the 200 medley relay (1:39.25), 200 free relay (1:30.72) and 400 free relay (3:15.38), all set this past February at the Indiana High School State Championships.
