NEW COMMIT: The University of Vermont has earned their first verbal commitment for the class of 2023 from Sandwich, Mass. native Maria Kelly.

Kelly does her club swimming with Cape Cod Swim Club and most recently competed at Richmond Futures where she recorded a best time in the 100m fly. She was a five-time finalist at the New England Age Group Championships with her highest finish being a tenth-place showing in the 400 IM in addition to racing four events at New England Seniors last winter.

She told Swimming World:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Vermont! When I arrived on campus for my overnight Coach Cournoyer and the team couldn’t have made me feel more welcome. I am looking forward to training alongside the amazing girls that make the UVM swim team a family that I can’t wait to become a part of. A huge thank you to my coaches, family, and friends for helping me get here. Go Cats!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 58.83
  • 200 back – 2:07.23
  • 400 IM – 4:38.68
  • 1000 free – 10:39.00

When she suits up for the Catamounts next fall, Kelly will join a backstroke group led by Morgan Montgomery, Kira Parker and Amelia Baxley. She would’ve scored in the B-final of both backstroke races at the 2018 America East Championships where Vermont finished third overall in the team standings.
