Vazquez Montano Siblings Dominate ACC Weekly Honors

Siblings Rodolfo Vazquez Montano and Aranza Vazquez Montano of the University of North Carolina were recognized as divers of the week in the ACC Weekly Honors on Wednesday.

Rodolfo split the men’s honor with Pitt’s Dylan Reed. Notre Dame swept the swimmers of the week with Chris Guiliano and Madelyn Christman.

Guiliano won the 50 freestyle and 100 free in a tri-meet with Navy and Princeton, going 19.55 and 41.84. The junior was second in the 200 free in 1:33.62 and was part of victorious 200 free and 400 free relays.

Christman swept the backstroke events in the tri-meet. She won the 100 back in 52.78 and the 200 in a personal-best 1:54.07. The junior led off the Irish’s winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.

Rodolfo Vazquez Montano, a freshman, won both diving events in UNC’s meet with SMU. He topped 400 points for the first time on 3-meter at 423.50 and won 1-meter in 352.40.

Aranza Vazquez Montano, a senior and reigning NCAA champion, won twice against UNC Asheville. The Mexican international scored 339.40 to capture 1-meter and 359.60 to prevail on 3-meter. Her winning margin in the latter was 95.3 points. She’s 8-for-8 this season in dual-meet events, earning her fourth ACC Weekly Honor of the season.

Reed, a fifth-year diver, won both events in Pitt’s backyard brawl with West Virginia. He scored 396.88 to win 1-meter and followed it up with 412.13 points on 3-meter.
