Vanderbilt Hires Marina Preiss as Assistant Coach

Vanderbilt Thursday added Marina Preiss as an assistant coach to the women’s swimming and diving staff.

Preiss spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at New Mexico State. She helped the Aggies to a total of 18 top-three finishes at the Western Athletic Conference Championships the last two years. She coached Naomi Slee, the WAC Freshman of the Year, in 2023.

“I am excited to welcome Marina to our program,” Vanderbilt head coach Jeremy Organ said in a university statement. “Marina is a very well-organized person who is very passionate about coaching. She is a great fit with our program and will make an immediate impact with our student-athletes.”

Preiss has primarily worked with sprinters in her time, including that focus at New Mexico State, and has had a hand in various organizational activities and recruiting as well as running workouts for various groups.

“I am beyond grateful to Jeremy for bringing me into the Vanderbilt family,” Preiss said. “I love all the traditions that come along with such an amazing university. The university supports student-athletes in such a positive way, I’m excited to be a part of it!”

Before her two seasons with the Aggies, Preiss served as a volunteer assistant at Auburn for two seasons. She worked with a variety of specialty groups there and coached age-groupers at Auburn Aquatics. Preiss also coached as a volunteer assistant at Southwestern State in Texas and coached age-group swimmers at Waterloo Swimming.

Preiss is a native of Long Island. She graduated from San Diego State in 2018 with a degree in social sciences. She swam for the Aztecs for four years as a freestyle and was a team captain as a senior.
