Summer Stanfield took first place in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley and the University of Utah women’s swimming and diving team collected a 156-99 victory over the Washington State Cougars on Friday evening in Pac-12 Conference action inside the Ute Natatorium.

“I think we competed really well,” said Utah coach Jonas Persson. “It was nice to see the women’s team be really excited, really want to win and getting after it. It’s nice to see that competitive edge and aggressiveness in the meet. I’m happy that we’re able to step up in every meet and do well. It’s really promising for the conference meet and it’s promising for next weekend against the team down south.”

Stanfield’s performance marked the fifth time in 2022-23 she’s ended a Utah dual meet with multiple wins and her first triumph came in the 200 free, the third event of the day, which she finished in 1:52.04. She was back in the pool in and back in the winner’s circle in the 100 fly, touching in 56.28 and one event later, she captured the 200 IM, finishing with a time of 2:04.58.

This was the third time in her Utah career Stanfield has won three events in one meet. She also accomplished that feat against BYU during the 2021-22 season and in 2019-20 against Tulane.

The meet began with the Utah 400 medley relay and Stanfield teamed up with Norah Hay, Erin Palmer and Reagan Cathcart to start the competition with a Utah win and a time of 3:45.97. The next triumph for the home team came in the 100 backstroke, which was won by Lily Milner in 56.04 in and Hilja Schimmel followed by posting a mark of 1:03.91 to take first in the 100 breaststroke.
