Utah Replenishes Backstroke Group with Verbals from Maile Andresen, Norah Hay
NEW COMMITS: Junior National qualifiers Maile Andresen of Concord, Calif. and Norah Hay of Sugar Land, Texas have both verbally committed to the University of Utah beginning in the fall of 2021.
Both talented backstrokers will join Milla Ruthven as a member of the Utes’ class of 2025.
MAILE ANDRESEN
She told Swimming World:
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Utah. I’m looking forward to continuing my swim career with the amazing coaches and team. I’d like to thank my family, coaches, friends, and teammates for supporting me throughout the years. Go Utes!”
A talented backstroker and sprint freestyler, Andresen swims year-round with Terrapins Swim Team and collected the gold medal in the 100 free at Juanita Allington Memorial Seniors after securing the runner-up spot in the 50 free at the Husky Invitational.
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 55.11
- 200 back – 2:04.28
- 50 free – 23.37
- 100 free – 50.77
- 100 fly – 57.32
Also competing for Northgate High School, Andresen finished 12th in the 100 back and 15th in the 100 free at the CIF State Championships during her sophomore season. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed fourth and second, respectively, in those events at the CIF North Coast Section meet in 2019.
NORAH HAY
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim & study at the University of Utah! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for making this journey possible. GO UTES!!!”
Also a strong backstroker, Hay does her club swimming with Katy Aquatics and most recently won the 200 back at the Gulf Short Course Championships after notching a best time at Juniors West in December. She finished 12th in the 200 back at College Station Sectionals in 2019.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.63
- 100 back – 55.76
- 200 back – 1:58.86
- 200 IM – 2:06.39
- 400 IM – 4:4:27.76
A rising senior at John Foster Dulles High School, Hay finaled in the 200m back at NCSAs last summer while registering a pair of best times at the championship meet.
