USC Trojans Win First Ever Pac-12 Title

The USC women made history this evening with their first ever conference title. While Stanford had notable swims from freshman Ella Eastin, Lia Neal, and Sarah Haase, as well as a relay win, the depth of the Trojan women’s depth was too much for the Cardinal to handle.
1650 Freestyle
The final evening of the Pac-12 Women’s Championship kicked off with a sub-16 minute 1650 from USC’s freshman Elizabeth Stinson. Her 15:59.13 was seven seconds ahead of Sammy Harrison, the senior of Oregon State who touched second with a 16:06.13. The USC freshman Allie Wooden was third with a 16:08.42.

200 Backstroke
A pair of California freshman took the top two spots in the 200 backstroke–Amy Bilquist posted the only sub-1:50 of the field with a 1:49.90. Kathleen Baker clocked a 1:50.74, ahead of Stanford sophomore Janet Hu, who clocked a 1:51.46.

100 Freestyle
Stanford’s junior Lia Neal and California’s junior Farida Osman again battled it out in a sprint event. Neal ended up with the edge in the 100 free, clocking the only sub-47 in the field (46.97). Osman was in second with 47.20, half a second ahead of Arizona junior Anika Apostalon, who finished third with a 47.77.

200 Breaststroke
Stanford picked up another individual event win with senior Sarah Haase‘s 2:07.69 in the 200 breaststroke. Haase beat USC’s freshman Riley Scott, who claimed second with a 2:08.84, narrowly edging out Arizona’s senior Emma Schoettmer (2:08.98) at the wall.

200 Butterfly
Ella Eastin earned a hat trick with her third individual victory in the 200 fly. A little bit off of her time from this morning, she won the event by almost two seconds with a 1:52.01. Second went to California’s sophomore Noemie Thomas, whose 1:53.85 just out touched her senior teammate Kelly Naze (:53.98).

400 Freestyle Relay
Stanford closed out the meet with a close win over USC in the 400 free relay. A team of Janet Hu (48.62), Ally Howe (48.62), Ella Eastin (47.97), and Lia Neal (46.91) took the race in 3:11.44, just ahead of the USC team of Katarzyna Wilk (48.21), Kirsten Vose (47.93), Chelsea Chenault (48.42), and Anika Apostalon (47.31) which touched with a 3:11.87. Third place went to the California team of Amy Bilquist (48.02), Rachel Bootsma (48.31), Kristen Vredeveld (48.35), and Farida Osman (47.27) touched just after with a 3:11.95.
The efforts of Stanford, however, could not overcome the USC Trojans, who won their first ever conference title with sheer depth.
