USC Trojans Get 2020 Verbal from Juniors Finalist Hugh Svendsen of SwimMAC Carolina
NEW COMMIT: The University of Southern California has gained their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season from Charlotte, N.C. native Hugh Svendsen.
Svendsen, who does his club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina, owns a pair of U.S. Open standards with three additional Summer Juniors cuts. He most recently achieved 100% best times at Juniors East where he finished sixth in both the 200 free and 200 back after placing 11th in the 200m back at Winter Nationals. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American capped off his summer long course season with a 12th-place finish in the 200m free at Junior Nationals and earned the bronze in the 200 back at Greensboro Sectionals last March. Also competing for Myers Park High School, Svendsen placed third in the 200 free and 15th in the 100 back during his sophomore season after taking 13th in the latter as a freshman.
He told Swimming World:
“Blessed to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Southern California. I’d like to thank my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me get to this point. With that being said, I can’t wait to be a part of the Trojan family and call USC home in 2020! Fight on”
His best times include:
- 100 back – 50.75
- 200 back – 1:45.20
- 100 free – 45.17
- 200 free – 1:37.04
- 200 IM – 1:48.78
When he suits up for the Trojans as a member of the class of 2024, Svendsen will become a valuable addition to their backstroke and freestyle groups. He would’ve scored in the C-final of the 200 free and 200 back at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships where USC finished third overall in the team standings.
