NEW COMMIT: The University of Southern California has kicked off their 2022 recruiting with a verbal commitment from Newcastle, Wash. native Charlie Arnold.

The Junior National qualifier will arrive in Los Angeles as a member of the Trojans’ class of 2026.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Southern California! I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches for all the support. Fight on! #fighton”

A talented breaststroker and IMer, Arnold swims year-round with Bellevue Club Swim Team and earned a best time at Pacific Northwest Seniors in December. Last summer, he placed fifth in the 200m breast, seventh in the 100m breast, and 12th in the 200m IM at Pacific Northwest LCM Seniors before going on to race the 100m/200m breast at Junior Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.81
  • 200 breast – 2:01.59
  • 200 IM – 1:53.23
  • 400 IM – 4:06.84
  • 50 free – 22.78
  • 100 free – 50.09
  • 200 free – 1:46.07

A current junior at Eastside Catholic, Arnold is already a four-time Washington 3A State Championship finalist. He placed seventh in the 200 IM and 10th in the 100 breast as a sophomore while taking third and second, respectively, in those events during his freshman season.

When he arrives on campus at the start of the 2022-23 season, Arnold will add his talents to a breaststroke training group that will be led by Ben Dillard and Scott Sobolewski. In May, Jeremy Kipp was announced as the new head coach of USC.
