USA Swimming Trials Day 4 Prelims Heat Sheets; Phelps Skipping 100 Free

Michael Phelps is putting his full focus on the 200 butterfly after scratching from the 100 freestyle. Jack Conger was the 11th seed and is also no longer slated to swim the event.

After making the Olympic team in the 100 backstroke Ryan Murphy announced that he will not be swimming the 100 freestyle. He was the 36th seed.

With a potential lack of “doubles” due to 1) all of the scratching and 2) the big names not qualifying; doesn’t this threaten the ability to go six deep in relay selection? And doesn’t this especially affect the 800 free relay which, by the selection criteria, is picked last?

Bowman can name anyone he wished to the relays. top 6 does not guarantee anything. Don’t be surprised to see phelps in the 400 and 800 free relays.
