Simone Manuel learned to swim for water safety, tried a number of other sports, and stuck with swimming because of the fun she had doing it.
Manuel recalled her favorite games she played during her age group practices, including relays and sharks and minnows. Now, her aquatic endeavors have reached a much more serious level as she finished second in the 50 and 100 freestyles at Olympic Trials. Manuel enters Rio with the seventh and ninth best times in the world in those events.
