Sean Ryan will represent the United States in the 10K this summer in Rio. Ryan has come a long way to be an elite distance swimmer, as he recalled his first ever race, in which he struggled to make it across the pool and did a little bit of each stroke.
The 23 year old shared his start in open water, and how much he enjoys swimming in the Chattanooga River. He also described an interesting experience in Perth, Australia, where the swimmers battled jellyfish in a river. While they were not stung, the hoards of jellyfish made it feel as though they were swimming through jello.
At the 2015 World Championships, Ryan finished fourth in the 10K.
