Editorial Coverage Sponsored By FINIS
Olivia Smoliga talks about the magic of making the Olympic team in an event she loves so much, in USA Swimming’s video series introducing the 2016 Olympic team.
The University of Georgia Bulldog will make her Olympic debut in the 100 backstroke in Rio. She has posted the fourth best time in the world this year.
Natalie Coughlin, the longtime Queen of the 100 backstroke, was Smoliga’s idol, and Smoliga reflected on what it meant to swim the event with her.
Smoliga is looking forward to wearing the USA warm ups again, after recalling how special the experience was her first time on a US Junior National team. The 21 year old first took home international gold in the 100 backstroke at the 2012 Junior PanPacific Championships.
