Melanie Margalis, like some other swimmers in USA Swimming’s Olympic team introduction video series, got into swimming because it was also her siblings’ chosen activity.
The University of Georgia graduate recalled a special memory in which she won a state title and her brother was there to present her with her award.
The 24 year old recounted her reaction to making the Olympic team in the 200 IM. Margalis also described how the feeling of becoming an Olympian truly set in when she received her Team USA gear.
She will swim the 200 IM and 800 freestyle relay in her first Olympic Games. Margalis will enter the 200 IM with the seventh best time in the world this year.
