USA Swimming International Team Trials: Where to Watch and How to Follow the Race to World Championships

With World Championship spots on the line, the USA Swimming International Team Trials kick off Tuesday and run through Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The meet will be used to select the team that will represent the U.S. at this summer’s World Championships at the Duna Arena in Budapest.

There are plenty of storylines to follow at the USA Swimming International Team Trials. Will the Virginia women continue their stunning success after claiming back-to-back NCAA titles? Will Kate Douglass see her success in short-course translate to long-course?  Which college stars will keep the momentum going? Which pros are well-rested and ready to go? Which of the young guns (Regan Smith, Lydia Jacoby, Torri Huske, Claire Curzan, Gretchen Walsh, Katie Grimes, Bella Sims) will shine in multiple events?  Who will have the biggest comeback? Who will pull the biggest upset? All of those questions  — and more — will be answered in Greensboro.

Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky are the biggest names at the meet. Dressel is entered in the 100 free, 200 free, 50 fly, 100 fly and 50 free, while Ledecky has entered the 800, 200, 400 and 1500 free. Dressel was the Olympic champion in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly at last summer’s Games in Tokyo while Ledecky was the gold medalist in the 800 freestyle and 1500 freestyle, and added a silver medal in the 400 freestyle.

Other stars of the sport set to compete in the USA Swimming International Team Trials include Hali Flickinger, Abbey Weitzeil, Michael Andrew, Lilly King, Kieran Smith, Bobby Finke, Rhyan White, Olivia Smoliga, Natalie Hinds, Nic Fink, Ryan Murphy, Chase Kalisz, Carson Foster, Jay Litherland, Mallory Comerford, Shaine Casas, Tom Shields, Annie Lazor, Katharine Berkoff, Alex Walsh, Phoebe Bacon, Paige Madden, Melanie Margalis, Luca Urlando, Brooks Curry and Ryan Held — among many others.
