USA Swimming International Team Trials: Day 1 Prelims Heat Sheets Released

The USA Swimming International Team Trials kick off Tuesday and run through Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The meet will be used to select the team that will represent the U.S. at this summer’s World Championships at the Duna Arena in Budapest.

The first session of the meet kicks off Tuesday morning with prelims of the women’s 200 butterfly, men’s 200 butterfly, women’s 100 free, men’s 100 free, followed by the distance heats of the women’s 800 free and men’s 1500 free.

In the women’s 200 butterfly, two-time Olympian Hali Flickinger will go head-to-head with 2021 NCAA champion Olivia Carter in heat 3, followed by Regan Smith in heat of the USA Swimming International Team Trials.

The men’s 200 fly will see Olympians Zach Harting and Chase Kalisz in heat 3, followed by recent fifth-year college stars Trenton Julian and Nicolas Albiero in heat 4.

In the women’s 100 free, the fifth and final heat will see Abbey Weitzeil, Claire Curzan and Mallory Comerford in the middle of the pool. The fourth heat of the USA Swimming International Team Trials will see Kate Douglass, Torri Huske, Natalie Hinds and Gretchen Walsh together, one heat after Erika Brown and Olivia Smoliga.

The men’s 100 free will have seven heats. Caeleb Dressel is the top seed and will be flanked by Brooks Curry and Coleman Stewart in the final heat. The sixth heat will see Justin Ress, Daniel Krueger, Zach Apple, Bowe Becker, Drew Kibler and Kieran Smith aiming to make the finals.

Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky are the biggest names at the meet. Dressel is entered in the 100 free, 200 free, 50 fly, 100 fly and 50 free, while Ledecky has entered the 800, 200, 400 and 1500 free. Dressel was the Olympic champion in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly at last summer’s Games in Tokyo while Ledecky was the gold medalist in the 800 freestyle and 1500 freestyle, and added a silver medal in the 400 freestyle.
