USA Swimming Foundation Provided Important Learn-to-Swim Funding and National Team Support in 2022

For almost 20 years, the USA Swimming Foundation has raised money in support of teaching children around the country how to swim and also supporting the country’s national team swimmers. A report on the organization’s activities for the previous year shows the significant impacts provided in terms of financial support and saving lives.

In 2022, the foundation gave more than $1,350,000 in saving lives, and $910,155 to swim lesson providers in grant money. $1.1 million went to elite American swimmers.

A letter from board chair David Shackley and USA Swimming CEO Tim Hinchey highlighted the efforts and impact:

The USA Swimming Foundation’s mission to Save Lives, Build Champions and Impact Communities made tremendous strides in 2022, thanks to the loyal commitment of our valued supporters. We look forward to continued partnership with Champions Club members, the U.S. Masters Swimming community and the many dedicated volunteers and members who support USA Swimming. We’re grateful for the organizations who have become charitable partners, helping us impact more communities than ever before.

Since 2004, $9 million has been invested in education, programming and training for more than 1,200 swim lesson providers, the Make-a-Splash Tour and other water safety initiatives. Formal swimming lessons can reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88 percent.

The USA Swimming Foundation awarded over $900,000 in grants to learn-to-swim providers and supported 22 clubs and five Historically Black Colleges and Universities with $160,000 in grant funding last year. In May 2022, we were thrilled to welcome back our in-person Make-a-Splash Tour presented by Phillips 66, highlighted by stops in Pennsylvania, Texas and California. An additional $108,500 fueled programming for sport development, which is inclusive of regional coach clinics and regional diversity camps.

In addition to its partnership with USA Swimming, OneAmerica Financial Partners signed on to support a 10-year, $1 million initiative to develop learn-to-swim and competitive opportunities in communities served by HBCUs.

Your gifts and investments helped us provide more than $1.1 million in support to our National Team athletes as they garnered tremendous success across the globe. American swimmers continue to inspire and motivate us all – highlighted by performances in Budapest, Australia and here in the U.S., exemplifying what it means to be a champion in the pool and in life. We hope you’ll join us at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis in 2024 as a new crop of dreams are realized at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming.

If you would like to learn more about how your gifts impact the lives of current and future swimmers, please reach out to the USA Swimming Foundation.

We look forward to seeing you on deck soon.
