USA Short Course National Championships: Team Scores Rundown
ATLANTA, Georgia, December 4. WITH the USA Short Course Championships coming to a close this past weekend, including five American record performances at the meet, Swimming World looks back at the top scores for individuals as well as teams.
Club Wolverine won the overall Club title with 555 points (Women-187, Men-368), while Mecklenburg Aquatics took home second place with 330.50 points (Women-129, Men-201.50). Athens Bulldog rounded out the top three with 231 points (Women-151, Men-80).
Auburn University won the College/University division that featured only five teams scoring points. Auburn captured 463 out of the total 756 points available with Florida second with 162 and Louisville third with 67.
Ryan Lochte, who posted a pair of American records and swam an ambitious event schedule, easily garnered the men's high point award with 97. Eric Shanteau took second with 68 points, while Robert Margalis placed third with 64 points.
Mary DeScenza parlayed a stocked event load of her own to win the women's high point award with 97 points, ahead of Natalie Coughlin's 77 points. Coughlin, however, provided the most star power for the women as she clocked a pair of American records. Meanwhile, Ava Ohlgren finished third with 70 points.
