USA Diving Junior National Championships Crowns Champions in Meet of 550 Divers
Over 550 junior divers from across the country flocked to Indianapolis, Ind. for the 2021 USA Diving Junior National Championships at the IUPUI Natatatorium.
The USA Diving Jr. National Championship competition on Wednesday, July 28, ended with two newly crowned National Champions. Divers in the 11 & under took center stage and the two winners were Cristiano Garcia (Alexandria Dive Club), who was named the National Jr. Champion in the 11 & under boys 1 meter and Ellireese Niday (Moss Farms Diving) became the National Champion for the 11 & under girls platform. On the second day of the USA Diving Jr. National Championship competition, we will see athletes in the 11 & under will compete for medals in the boy’s platform and girl’s 3 meter.
On Day 2, July 29, Delaney Hsu (Alliance Dive Club) was named as the 11 & under Boys Platform National Champion after having a total score of 49.90. Mallory Worobel (Woodlands Diving Academy) was named as the 11 & under Girls 3m National Champion with a total score of 41.28. Divers and fans at the IU Natatorium had the chance to see athletes compete in the prelims for six different events.
Athletes in the 3m boys and 1m girls competition saw two winners being named at USA Diving National Jr. Champion Friday, July 30 at the IU Natatorium. Delaney Hsu (Alliance Dive Club) took his second title when was named the 11 & under boys 3m National Jr. Champion with a score of 251.53. When it came to 11 & under girls 1m National Jr. Champion Barbara Chen (Arrow Dive Club) was named the winner with a score of 231.10. Over 30 athletes together competed in the two events with the top 12 of each event receiving a medal.
Six junior divers were named National Jr. Champion Sunday, August 1 at the IU Natatorium. 12–13-year-old group Mikolas Schwickert (Clavadistas del Sol) was named the Boys 3 National Champion after having a score of 352.00. Additionally in the age group of 12-13 Kayla Jensen (Woodlands Diving Academy) was named girls platform National Champion with a score of 249.05. The first 14-15 year old divers were named Nation Champion. Joshua Hedberg (The Indiana International School of Diving) won the boys platform with a score of 527.20 and Avery Worobel (Woodlands Diving Academy) won the girls 1m USA Diving National Champion with a score of 363.35. At the end of the completion two 16-19 year old divers were named National Champion. Margo O’Meara (RipFest) was named the girls 1m winner with a score of 426.80 and Carson Tyler (Moss Farms Diving) was named the boys 3m winner with a score of 705.30.
Six additional divers were named USA Diving Junior National Champions Monday, August 2 at the IU Natatorium. The last two divers in the 12-13 age group competed for medals the 1m. Tristan Yang (New York Dive Club) was named the 1m boys national champion for the 12-13 age group with a total score of 312.90 while Kayla Jensen (Woodlands Diving Academy) was named the girls 1m national champion with a score of 308.20. When it came to the 14-15 age group Joshua Sollenberger (The Indiana International School of Diving) was named the boys 1m national champion with a score of 419.10. For the girls 14-15 age group Avery Worobel (The Woodlands Diving Academy) was named 3m national champion with a total score of 415.55. Monday also saw divers in the 16-19 age group win national champion titles. Daryn Wright(The Indiana International School of Diving) won the girls platform with a total score of 462.45. Carson Tyler (Moss Farms Diving) also in the 16-19 age group won boys 1m with a total score of 563.85.
The final four divers were named USA Diving Jr. National Champions Tuesday, August 3 at the IU Natatorium. Divers in the 14-15 and 16-19 age group competed for a spot in the final and medals. When it came to the 14-15 age group Joshua Hedberg (The Indiana International School of Diving) was named national champion for the boys 3m with a total score of 420.60. For the girls platform Avery Worobel (Woodlands Diving Academy) was named national champion with a total score of 323.95. At the end of competition, divers were named in the girls 3m and boys platform for 16-19 age group. Margo O’Meara (RipFest) was named the girls 3m national champion with a total score of 486.30 and Tyler Wills (RipFest) was named boys platform national champion with a total score of 623.70.
