U.S. Olympic Trials: Four Events Saturday Morning Begin Competition (Heat Sheet)

The U.S. Olympic Trials will begin Saturday morning with preliminary heats in four events, the women’s 100 butterfly, women’s 400 freestyle, men’s 100 breaststroke and men’s 400 freestyle. The session begins at 11 a.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The women’s 100 fly will see Regan Smith, the heavy favorite later in the week in the 200 fly and the backstroke events, take lane four in the first circle-seeded heat, with Gretchen Walsh and Indiana teenager Alex Shackell following her. American-record holder Torri Huske is in the final heat along with the swimmer who was the runnerup at the last Trials in 2021, Claire Curzan.

Katie Ledecky is the big favorite in the women’s 400 free, and she will be joined in the final heat of the event by Claire Weinstein and 2023 World Championships finalist Bella Sims. The previous heat includes multi-time Worlds medalist Leah Smith and 2021 Olympic finalist Paige Madden.

In the men’s 100 breast, Nic Fink is the top seed with Jake Foster joining him in the final heat. 2023 Worlds finalist Josh Matheny and American-record holder Michael Andrew highlight the previous heat while 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Cody Miller joins Noah Nichols and former college star Max McHugh one heat before that. Don’t forget about Liam Bell, this year’s NCAA champion in the 100-yard breast, in heat six.

Finally, the wide-open men’s 400 free sees 2021 Olympic bronze medalist Kieran Smith in heat seven with Rex MaurerAaron Shackell and Ross Dant while Jake MagaheyDavid JohnstonJake Mitchell and Carson Foster occupy lanes three through six, respectively, in the final heat.
