Upper Main Line YMCA’s Mac Sullivan Sends In-State Verbal to Penn State for 2021
NEW COMMIT: Malvern, Penn. native and butterfly specialist Mac Sullivan has given her in-state verbal commitment to Penn State University. Currently a high school junior, Sullivan will suit up for the Nittany Lions in the fall of 2021.
Sullivan, who owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 100 fly, does her club swimming with Upper Main Line YMCA and most recently placed seventh in the 100m fly and ninth in the 200m fly at YMCA LCM Nationals. Last winter, she recorded a pair of best times at YMCA SCY Nationals where her highest finish was a 16th-place showing in the 200 fly.
Also competing for Great Valley High School, Sullivan placed fifth in the 100 fly as a sophomore after finishing 10th in that event during her rookie campaign at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championships. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to announce my decision to continue my academic and athletic career at Penn State University! I chose this school because of the amazing student-athlete program, team atmosphere, and coaching staff. None of this would be possible without my family, coaches, and teammates. I cannot wait to become a part of this amazing program! WE ARE!”
Her best times include:
- 50 fly – 25.98
- 100 fly – 55.33
- 200 fly – 2:03.38
- 200 IM – 2:07.21
Sullivan has continuously dropped time in all of her events over the past three seasons, knocking off three seconds in the 100 fly, 13 seconds in the 200 fly and 12 seconds in the 200 IM. She still has two years of club swimming to go before arriving in State College, and will surely look to capitalize on her recent long course success this upcoming short course season.
