UCLA Hits the Jackpot With 2021 Verbal Commitment from Joanie Cash
NEW COMMIT: Lido Beach, N.Y. native Joan “Joanie” Cash has verbally committed to UCLA and will arrive on campus at the start of the 2021-22 season.
She will suit up for the Bruins as a member of the class of 2025 along with Mia Chang, Morgan Hawes, Taylor Schaffer, Paige MacEachern, Eva Carlson, Ana Jih-Schiff, Kathryn Lundh, and Ashley Stenstrom.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at UCLA! This is a dream come true and I am so thankful for my family, coaches, teammates and friends who helped me get here. Go Bruins!!”
A talented sprinter, Cash is a U.S. Open qualifier and does her club swimming with Long Island Aquatic Club. She most recently had a pair of top-6 finishes at Metropolitan Seniors and raced four events at the U.S. Open. Last summer, she placed sixth in both the 50m free and 100m free before going on to compete at Junior Nationals.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.13
- 100 free – 50.67
- 50 fly – 25.15
- 100 fly – 54.46
Also competing for Sacred Heart Academy, Cash is a six-time New York Federation Championship finalist. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned silver in the 50 free and bronze in the 100 free as a junior while taking fifth and fourth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
