U.S. Open Qualifier Alexander Neff Will Stay In State, Announces Verbal to Virginia Tech
NEW COMMIT: Virginia Beach, Va. native Alexander Neff has announced his in-state verbal commitment to the Hokies and will arrive in Blacksburg in the fall of 2020.
Neff swims year-round with Tide Swimming and finished 13th in the 200m fly this past summer at Junior Nationals to achieve the U.S. Open standard after earning bronze in that event at Virginia LCM Seniors. Last winter, he placed 17th in the 200 fly at Juniors East before going on to earn 100% best times at Virginia SCY Seniors.
Also competing for Landstown High School, Neff is a five-time Virginia 6A State Championship finalist. He took third in the 200 IM and ninth in the 100 fly as a junior while finishing eighth and 10th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University! I am super happy that I will be continuing my academic and swimming career at Virginia Tech! I would like to give a special thanks to my family, coaches, and friends for helping me. I cannot wait to spend my next years of my life being a Hokie! #GOHOKIES”
His best times include:
- 50 fly – 23.09
- 100 fly – 49.84
- 200 fly – 1:48.53
- 200 IM – 1:50.97
When he suits up for Virginia Tech as a member of the class of 2024, Neff will add his talents to a training group that’ll include Antani Ivanov, Blake Manoff, and Henry Claesson. He has consistently made improvements over the past two seasons, dropping two seconds in the 100 fly, five in the 200 fly, and four in the 200 IM.
