U.S. Olympic Trials: Ledecky, Dressel to Conclude Trials Racing Saturday Night (Day Eight Finals Heat Sheet)

The eighth finals session of the U.S. Olympic Trials will include the men’s 100 butterfly final, women’s 50 freestyle semifinals, women’s 200 IM final and women’s 800 freestyle final.

In the men’s 100 fly, Caeleb Dressel will swim in lane four as he hopes to add a second individual event for Paris after previously winning the 50 free Friday. Dressel will be in between Dare Rose, the bronze medalist at last year’s World Championships, and Zach Harting, a 2021 Olympian in the 200 fly, while backstroker Ryan Murphy is in lane six.

Torri Huske is the top seed in the women’s 50 free semis, with Gretchen Walsh, Simone Manuel and Erika Connolly also in the second semifinal heat. Catie DeLoof and Abbey Weitzeil swim in the first heat.

Kate Douglass and Alex Walsh are the big favorites to qualify for the Olympic team in the 200 IM, particularly Huske having scratched to focus on the 50 free. Finally, Katie Ledecky will try to become the only four-time winner of the met as she races in the 800 free final after topping the prelims field by 14 seconds. Some of the main contenders for second are Jillian CoxAurora Roghair and Paige Madden, who is already on the team in the 200 and 400 free.
