US Nationals Day 2 Heat Sheets: Caeleb Dressel is Top Seed in 50 Fly

After an extremely fast start to the U.S. National Championships, that included a U.S. Open record, stunning National Age Group record and Katie Ledecky nearly breaking a world record, swimmers will look to keep up the pace on Day 2 from Indianapolis.

Day 2 will feature the men’s and women’s 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 backstroke and 50 butterfly.

The women’s 200 freestyle kicks off the Wednesday morning session with Ledecky looking to build off of her dominating performance in the 800 free. She is the top seed in the 200 with Erin Gemmell, Claire Weinstein, Bella Sims, Leah Smith, Paige Madden, Katie Grimes, Torri Huske and Hali Flickinger among the challengers.

Hometown favorite Drew Kibler has the top seed in the men’s 200 free with Kieran Smith and Carson Foster next in another loaded field that includes teen Thomas Heilman, who just broke one of Michael Phelps’ NAG records in the 200 butterfly on Day 1.

The familiar favorites lead the pack in the women’s 200 breaststroke at US Nationals with Lilly King, Kate Douglass and Annie Lazor with the top seeds, being chased by USC’s Isabelle Odgers, Kaitlyn Dobler and some upstarts.

In the men’s 200 breast Matt Fallon, Charlie Swanson, Will Licon, Nic Fink and Jake Foster look to be the favorites.

In the women’s 200 backstroke, Regan Smith will look to build off of her 200 fly win in a loaded event that includes Olympians Phobe Bacon, Claire Curzan and Rhyan White as well as star Isabelle Stadden.

The men’s 200 back features Ryan Murphy, Shaine Casas and Carson Foster leading the pack.

The women’s 50 fly is loaded with Douglass, Huske, Abbey Weitzel, Gretchen Walsh, Claire Curzan, Natalie Hinds, Gabi Albiero and Beata Nelson.

After missing the finals in the 100 free at US Nationals, Caeleb Dressel is back in the 50 fly. He is the top seed with Michael Andrew, Zach Harting, Ryan Held and Aiden Hayes among those in the mix.
