U.S. Names 99 Swimmers to 2022-23 U.S. National Team

USA Swimming on Wednesday released the list of the 2022-23 U.S. National Team, featuring 53 men and 46 women.

The roster’s 99 individuals include 36 Olympians and 30 Olympic medalists. A total of 56 clubs, 31 states and 23 universities are represented on the team. Longhorn Aquatic/University of Texas (11 swimmers) and the state of California (also 11) lead in each category. Among the swimmers are nine current long-course meters American record holders and nine world record holders.

The team comprises the athletes with the six fastest times in each individual Olympic event, based on times from Jan. 1, 2022 through Aug. 31, 2022, in approved competitions sanctioned by USA swimming, FINA or other international bodies.

“This year’s National Team roster features a good mix of veteran presence and emerging talent,” USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko said in a press release. “This roster showcases the strength of both our club and college systems. These athletes had strong showings nationally and internationally this past year, and we look forward to seeing them compete as we look to next year and ultimately the 2024 Paris Olympics.”

Six swimmers are on the national team in a high of five events each: Shaine Casas, Carson Foster, Claire Curzan, Katie Ledecky and Leah Smith. Among the notable newcomers are recent Junior Pan Pacs stars Erin Gemmell and Daniel Diehl.

The 2022-23 U.S. national team bios and the full selection criteria are available here on USA Swimming’s website.
