U.S. Men’s Water Polo Names Roster for Fukuoka with Nine Olympians
Nine Olympians are among the U.S. men’s water polo roster for the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, which starts this week.
The roster includes 15 athletes. Only 13 will be eligible to be on each gameday roster, with that decision to be made prior to each game.
The U.S. finished sixth at the Tokyo Olympics and at last year’s World Championships in Budapest. Nine athletes from the Tokyo Games will be in Fukuoka – Johnny Hooper, Hannes Daube, Luca Cupido, Ben Hallock, Dylan Woodhead, Alex Bowen, Max Irving, Drew Holland and Marko Vavic.
The U.S. won bronze at the 2023 World Aquatics World Cup in Los Angeles last month, its first medal since 1997. It also won a silver medal in the 2022 World League Super final.
The U.S. begins play on Sunday, July 16 against Kazakhstan. It’s drawn in Group A with Australia and Greece. The final round is July 29.
