Two-Time Iowa State Record Holder Berit Quass of YMCA of Greater Des Moines Selects Tennessee
NEW COMMIT: The University of Tennessee has received a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Ankeny, Iowa native Berit Quass.
Quass, who owns five Summer Juniors time standards, swims year-round with the YMCA of Greater Des Moines and most recently recorded a best time at Junior Nationals. Last winter, she placed eighth in the 200 fly at Juniors West before going on to register three top-8 finishes at YMCA Nationals.
Also competing for Dowling High School, Quass is a six-time Iowa State Championship finalist and a five-time gold medalist. As a junior, Quass broke the Iowa state record in the 100 fly and 500 free and was part of the record-setting 4×50 medley relay. She has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so grateful and excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee! I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing team! UT’s outstanding swim program and academics made this school stand out! Looking forward to life on the Rocky Top! #govols”
Her best times include:
- 100 fly – 53.67
- 200 fly – 1:58.94
- 500 free – 4:48.88
- 100 back – 55.37
- 200 back – 2:02.00
Quass will add valuable depth to the Lady Vols’ mid-distance free and fly groups when she arrives in Knoxville as a member of the class of 2024. Even with a year to go before suiting up for head coach Matt Kredich, Quass would’ve scored in the C-final of the 100 fly at the 2019 SEC Championships where Tennessee finished fourth overall in the team standings.
