Two Meet Records Fall on Night One of Iowa City Sectionals
IOWA CITY – Kirsten Jacobsen of Barrington Swim Club and Colin Cavanaugh of Clovis Swim Club each set meet records in the women’s and men’s 1000 free to highlight the first night of competition at the Iowa City Sectionals at the University of Iowa’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
Jacobsen completed the race in 9:49.20 to win by more than 10 seconds, as Mitchell Aquatic Club’s Tevyn Waddell touched second in 9:59.90. Waddell dropped seven seconds and just barely cleared the 10 minute barrier. Emily Niles of Clovis Swim Club swam a 10:01.07 to finish third, a 17 second drop from her previous personal best.
Meanwhile, Cavanaugh touched in 9:12.33 to establish a new meet record in the men’s race. Life Time Arizona Swim Team’s Andrew Eisen gave him quite the race, charging home on the final 50 to take second in 9:12.80. Tanner Olmos gave Clovis a 1-3 showing with a 9:16.98 for third.
Clovis Swim Club leads the combined team standings after two events with 92 points, with Barrington Swim Club (55 points) and Life Time Arizona Swim Team (33 points) in second and third.
