Townley Haas Reclaims 200 Free American Record, Wins for Third Straight Year

Tonight’s 200 free A final saw Texas junior Townley Haas reclaim his American record on his way to nabbing his third consecutive NCAA title in the event. Haas touched in 1:29.50 to get ahead of former American record holder, Indiana’s Blake Peroni, who swam a 1:30.23 for second. In third was Auburn’s Zach Apple in a time of 1:31.18.

Rounding out the A heat was Cal freshman Bryce Medford who touched in 1:33.13.

Texas senior Jeff Newkirk earned some much needed points for the Longhorns by winning the B final in 1:33.15.
