Torri Huske Wins 100 Fly as Stanford Women Cruise Over San Jose State

One week ago, Stanford’s women brought a smaller squad north to Pullman, Wash., to face Washington State, and head coach Greg Meehan employed the same strategy this week as in the short trip to San Jose State. After sitting out against the Cougars, 100 fly world champion Torri Huske returned to action and placed first in the 100 butterfly Friday evening in 53.72 while Stanford freshman Charlotte Hook posted a quick 200 fly time of 1:57.73 in the Cardinal’s 162-63 victory.

No. 2 Stanford remained unbeaten through its fall dual meet season, delivering a 162-63 victory at San Jose State on Friday afternoon.

The Cardinal (3-0) swept all event titles while also producing the top three finishes in the 200 free for the third consecutive meet with Gigi Johnson, Torri Huske and Aurora Roghair placing 1-2-3.

“Competing with a smaller squad today, I thought we raced really hard despite taking a couple events to get focused,” said Greg Meehan, Stanford’s Paul A. Violich Director of Women’s Swimming and Diving. “We had some really nice wins from some of our freshmen. Gigi Johnson had a great 200 free. Even with a smaller squad it was good to get out there and compete. We’re excited about the upcoming NC State meet and what it represents for us as a good check-in point.”

Johnson was one of four Cardinal swimmers to claim two event titles, clocking in at 1:48.75 to win the 200 free and winning the 200 breast with a time of 2:19.09.

Stanford’s other multi-event winners included Alex Crisera (54.78 in the 100 back, 1:57.27 in the 200 back), Charlotte Hook (1:57.73 in the 200 fly, 2:02.74 in the 200 IM) and Morgan Tankersley (4:59.05 in the 500 free, 10:11.75 in the 1000 free).

Huske claimed the top spot in the 100 fly (53.72), Sam Tadder paced the field in the 100 breast (1:03.97), Emma Wheal led the way in the 50 free (22.90) and Kirsti McEnroe won the 100 free (50.82).

Huske, Tadder, Johnson and Wheal teamed up to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.07 while Janelle Rudolph, Roghair, Crisera and McEnroe prevailed in the 400 free relay at 3:23.38.
