CARY, North Carolina, October 2. Justin Ress, the top-ranked recruit in North Carolina by CollegeSwimming.com, has committed to join the N.C. State Wolfpack and head coach Braden Holloway following his senior season at Cary High School.
Ress, who trains with the Marlins of Raleigh, is an Olympic Trials qualifier with cuts in three events already (200 back, 200 IM, 400 IM). He had a tremendous season this past year, dropping 16 seconds in his 400-meter IM from 4:42 to a 4:26.47, while also cutting 10 seconds from his 200-meter IM down to a 2:03.97.
The defending North Carolina high school champion in the 500-yard free, Ress will have an impact across the board for the Wolfpack.
Later this month, Ress is headed to Colorado Springs to take part in the 2014 USA Swimming National Select Camp.
It’s also a legacy pick for Ress as his mother, Maya, swam at N.C. State in the 80s.
“I’m super excited to swim at NC State,” Ress said. “I had great experiences with all the schools that showed interest in me, but picked NC State for the energy the swimmers and coaches bring every day along with the engineering opportunities NCSU has to offer.”
