Luke Hobson NAG, 7 Pool Records Lead Texas Swimming Past SMU

The top-ranked University of Texas swimming and diving team rode seven pool records to a 164-127 win against SMU at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium on Friday. Among the swims were seven pool records and a 17-18 national age-group record in the 1,000 freestyle for freshman Luke Hobson.

The Longhorns opened the meet with a pool record in the 200 medley relay as freshman Anthony Grimm, junior Caspar Corbeau, senior Alvin Jiang and senior Cameron Auchinachie combined to clock a season-best time of 1:23.00.

Hobson followed with a pool record in the 1,000 free, touching the wall with the fastest time in the NCAA this season at 8:43.66. That time undercuts the record of 8:45.38 set by David Johnston in 2020. Hobson already owns the 500 free NAG in 4:09.72, set in December.

Senior Drew Kibler added a third pool record, swimming 1:32.74 in the 200 free, the fifth-fastest time in the NCAA this season.

Texas sophomore Carson Foster tallied a pool record in the 200 back with a time of 1:39.35, the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season, Corbeau won the 200 breaststroke with a pool record time of 1:53.87 and junior Jake Foster registered a 1:43.78 in the 200 IM for another top mark.
