SUWANEE, Georgia, September 29. South Carolina head coach McGee Moody picked up a solid recruit tonight as Collins Hill’s Cody Bekemeyer has committed to become a future Gamecock in the Class of 2015.
“I want to give a thanks to all the coaches that have coached me and I apologize for all the excuses and complaints I said/say to you everyday, but I know that after every practice, I’m only getting better and stronger,” Bekemeyer posted on Instagram when announcing his commitment. “I’m very excited and happy to say that I have verbally committed to the University of South Carolina and I cannot wait to see what USC has to offer to me for the next 4 years of my college career!”
Bekemeyer, the top-ranked recruit in the State of Georgia by CollegeSwimming.com, trains at SwimAtlanta and will make an immediate impact on Moody’s program.
Bekemeyer, also ranked 21st in the entire Class of 2015, is a distance freestyler/IMer who should turn some heads in the Southeastern Conference when he gets there.
His top-ranked time is an 8:06.86 in the 800-meter free from this summer’s junior nationals, while he also owns a 4:21.96, 9:10.01, 15:10.71 trio of 500-1000-1650 yard freestyles as his lifetime bests.
Bekemeyer also has a 1:49.48 in the 200-yard IM as well as a 3:53.30 in the 400-yard IM, and should stabilize the Gamecock distance program for years to come.
Bekemeyer is also competes in open water competitions when they work into his schedule.
Has Georgia signed anyone yet? Cody is the best male swimmer in the state. Looks like they are missing Jack in the recruiting part….
There’s still plenty of time with another month or so until the first signing date. Plus, Georgia may not have a whole lot of money to play with considering they brought in Bentz and the Litherland triplets all in this year’s class.
