Tony Shutts Talks About Unique Water Training With Aqua Boom
Swimming World had a chance to catch up with Tony Shutts at the most recent ASCA Clinic in Washington D.C. and hear about his new product, the Aqua Boom.
The Aqua Boom came on to the market is 2015 as a new training tool for a wide range of populations. As Shutts explains in our interview, which can be seen below, he originally envisioned the product as a way to add more traditional strength and conditioning to pool workouts by enabling swimmers to do pull-ups, dips, and other exercises without leaving the water. However, coaches have quickly picked up on the product and started to implement it with their teams in a variety of ways.
The product itself is simple: it fits into a starting block receptacle and can be used in a variety of ways to add new dimensions to swim training. As a fixed object that hangs over the water, the Aqua Boom can be used as an attachment for various equipment to use it for in-water power development, vertical kicking, technique work, stationary swimming, or a host of other strength and conditioning exercises. The product has already found it’s way into the hands of high profile coaches such as Matt Kredich at the University of Tennessee.
Shutts says he has seen the product used in a wide range of populations, from paraplegic athletes to age group swimmers to Olympians. You can see the full details of the Aqua Boom at www.theaquaboom.com and see our full interview with Shutts about the product below.
