To Beijing and Back, Episode 4: Touring a Silk Factory
Left Sidebar
BEIJING, China, August 11. THE fourth episode of To Beijing and Back takes viewers on a tour of a silk factory, showing the life cycle of the silkworm from moth to worm and cocoon stage.
The small cocoon is soaked in hot water, and the thread from the cocoon is removed to make silk. One cocoon typically makes just one or two threads of silk. Pupae are removed from large cocoons, which are stretched to make a larger piece of silk.
Watch as workers take many threads of silk and handcraft them into soft quilts.
