Tidbits from South America
PARANA, Argentina, January 22. JORGE Aguado, one of Swimming World Magazine's stellar international correspondents, checks in this week with some news from South America.
Brazil recently announced its A and B teams for the South American Junior Championships to be held in Caracas, Venezuela from Feb. 28-March 5. Amanda Macedo, Fernanda Felix, Giuliana Gigliotti, Jéssica Carvalho, Julia Gerotto, Júlia Moraes, Júlia Volkman, Juliana Kagami, Larissa Oliveira, Marina Bernardini, Sarah Correa and Tathiane Quirino will comprise the women's A team, while Arthur Ramalho, Eduardo Santana, Felipe Cunha, Guilherme Fronho, Hugo Quirin, Lucas Gerotto, Luis Cremonez, Matheus Martini, Murilo Monteiro, Ramon Melo, Vicente Carvalho and Victor Rodrigues make up the men's A team.
In the B teams, Ana Carolina Azambuja, Daiene Dias, Daynara Paula, Fernanda Moraes, Isabela Castro, Júlia Siqueira, Manuella Lyrio, Natalia Favoretto, Rebeca Peppi, Roberta Albino, Thalandra Borges and Veruska Clednev will represent the women, while Alan Silva, Caio Serebranik, Cândido da Silva Júnior, Cauê Silva, Filipe Alcântara, Frederico Veloso, Gabriel Souza, Henrique Rodrigues, João de Lucca, Maurício Torres, Raphael Santos and Renner Lima will bear the standard for the men.
Meanwhile, a pair of events will take place in Argentina in beach-front venues. First, Necochea will play host to a meet Jan. 27-28, before Pinamar holds a meet Feb. 1-2. The competitions will feature two teams (River Plate – Neuquen versus Stars) with six swimmers each in a short course meter format.
River Plate – Neuquen, coached by Rodolfo Sacco, is made up of Eduardo Otero, Walter Arciprete, (Cavanagh, Caviglia or Barale), José Meolans, Gabriel Melconián and Agustín Fiorilli. Stars, coached by Raúl Strnad, will feature Joaquín Belza, Sergio Ferreyra, Gustavo Paschetta, Damián Roth, Esteban Espinosa and (Gastón Rodríguez or Luciano Sales Rubio).
