Three-Time Oregon 5A State Champion Marcus Reyes-Gentry Verbals to Notre Dame for 2022
NEW COMMIT: The University of Notre Dame has received another early verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from Junior National qualifier Marcus Reyes-Gentry of Central Point, Ore.
He will join Michael Flynn, Dillon Edge, Jack Anderson and Tate Bacon as a member of the Fighting Irish’s Class of 2026.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am extremely proud and ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame. Their program surpasses all I’ve dreamt of in college swimming. I’d like to thank my mom and family for all the sacrifices they’ve made to bring my dreams to fruition. To Coach Siouxha, thank you for the many years of loyalty and awareness of knowing exactly what I need to become a better person and swimmer. Go Irish! ?”
A talented backstroker, Reyes-Gentry trains year-round with Superior Stingrays Swimming and finished 14th in the 200 back at Juniors West last December. He collected six gold medals at th. e Oregon 11-14 Championships in February 2019 and most recently earned three best times at the Region XII Senior Championships in March.
His best times include:
- 50 back – 23.69
- 100 back – 49.96
- 200 back – 1:47.12
- 200 free – 1:43.62
- 500 free – 4:40.11
Currently a junior at Crater High School, Reyes-Gentry is already a three-time Oregon 5A State Championship gold medallist. He won the 200 free as a sophomore while securing the gold medal in the 500 free and 100 back during his freshman season.
He has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts in the pool and in the classroom.
Under head coach Michael Litzinger, the Fighting Irish finished sixth at the 2020 ACC Championships.
