Three-Time Florida 2A State Champion Reese Branzell Sends Verbal to Georgia Bulldogs
NEW COMMITS: Manalapan, Fla. sprint freestyler Reese Branzell has verbally committed to the University of Georgia for the fall of 2021.
He will join Brennan Cheney, Jackson Bates, Sam Parker, Mitchell Norton, Henré Louw, Zach Kohm and Ryan Wylie as a member of the Bulldogs’ class of 2025.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 21.10
- 100 free – 44.89
- 200 free – 1:39.45
- 50m free – 23.61
- 100m free – 51.23
- 200m free – 1:55.19
Branzell does his club swimming with Lake Lytal Lightning and owns two Junior National cuts and one U.S. Open cut. He earned two best times at the Toyota U.S. Open in December where he finaled in the 50m free and 100m free. Last summer, he won the 100m free at Florida Gold Coast Seniors before going on to grab silver in the 100m free at Greensboro Futures.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“Georgia was the top school on my list and the perfect fit for me. UGA has a great top-ranked athletic program and it’s a strong academic school that offers my first choice major. It also has a phenomenal coaching team, a supportive academic advising staff and a solid team of swimmers. I’m super excited to spend my college career at the University of Georgia!! Go Dawgs!”
Also competing for Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Branzell is a four-time Florida 2A State Championship finalist. He won the 100 free and 200 free as a junior while taking first and ninth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season.
Branzell will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when he arrives in Athens at the start of the 2021-22 season. He will add his talents to a training group that’ll include rising sophomore Dillon Downing as well as incoming first-years Luca Urlando and Jake Magahey.
