Three-Time Alabama State Champion Trey Sheils Gives 2020 In-State Verbal to Crimson Tide
NEW COMMIT: The University of Alabama has scored a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from current high school junior and talented breaststroker Trey Sheils of Daphne, Ala.
Sheils swims year-round with TNT Swimming and owns three Summer Junior standards. He most recently competed at NCSAs where he finished 14th in the 100 breast and 15th in the 50 breast after notching five lifetime bests at the Southeastern Championships. He placed 15th in the 100 breast at Juniors East in December and earned bronze in the 100m breast at Southern Zone Seniors this past summer.
Also competing for Daphne High School, Sheils is a four-time Alabama State Championship finalist and has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors. He won the 100 breast and 200 IM as a junior after finishing first in the former event as well as third in the 100 free during his sophomore season.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for The University of Alabama! I would like to thank all my family, friends, coaches and teammates for their support. Roll Tide!”
His best times include:
- 50 breast – 25.80
- 100 breast – 55.24
- 200 breast – 2:02.45
- 200 IM – 1:51.13
- 50 free – 20.79
- 100 free – 46.15
Sheils will add valuable depth to the Crimson Tide’s lineup when he arrives in Tuscaloosa as a member of the class of 2024. Although he’s just outside of scoring range at the SEC Championships, he has continuously made improvements each season and will have two years of overlap with top returning Bama breaststrokers Nico Perner and Nicholas Perera.
