Thomas Heilman Lowers 200 Fly NAG Another Second to 1:42.77 at Speedo Juniors
Thomas Heilman continued his assault on the national age-group record board Saturday night, the 14-year-older lowering the 200 butterfly mark for the second time in a day.
The day began with Michael Andrew owning the record for the 13-14 age-group since 2014 at 1:45.39. Heilman went 1:43.97, a drop of more than two seconds off his seed time, in the morning prelims session at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships East Meet in Greensboro, N.C.. He then went 1:42.77 at night to lower it even further and claim victory over a swimmer four years his senior.

Saturday night, he faced a challenge down the stretch. He turned tied for second at the 150-yard wall, but used a split of 26.68 to rally to the win. Second was Carl Bloebaum in 1:42.94. Third place went to Bloebaum’s Mason Manta Rays teammate Gibson Holmes in 1:42.95. No one else in the race cracked 1:45.
