Thomas Brewer Breaks 200 IM Record at Federal Way Sectionals
FEDERAL WAY–Thomas Brewer of Current Swimming set a new Western Sectionals record during the final session of the Speedo Sectionals held in Federal Way.
King Aquatic Club swept the competition with a whopping 1134 points, with Fort Collins Area Swim Team (869) and Bellevue Club Swim Team (768) finishing in second and third.
Emma Schanz kicked off the final session with a win in the 200 IM. Schanz dropped two seconds from her prelims time to finish with a 1:58.29. Fort Collins’ Bailey Nero finished second with a 1:59.20, while Bellevue Club’s Kimberly Williams took third with a 1:59.28.
Current Swimming’s Thomas Brewer claimed first and succeeded in setting a new Western Sectionals record in the 200 IM. His time of 1:46.38 replaces Patrick Mulcare’s 2014 time of 1:46.51. Cascade Swim Club’s Abraham Devine finished second with a 1:47.39, while Tommy Thach was third with a 1:48.13.
Dropping six seconds from her prelims time, Adelaide Chambers of King Aquatic Club took first in the 1650 free with a time of 16:58.35. Mackenzie Halligan of Current Swimming touched close behind with a 16:58.50.
Jeffco Hurricane’s Keegan Foulke grabbed another individual win in the men’s 1650 free finishing with a time of 15:31.99. He was followed by Aaron Sett (15:34.40) of Foothills Swim Club and Hillsboro Heat’s Luke Thornbrue (15:49.09).
Gillian St. John of Lobo Aquatic and Ashley Sutherland of King Aquatic raced to a quick finish in the 50 free but it was St. John who won out touching the wall with a 22.86. Sutherland finished right behind her with a 22.92. Oregon City’s Jillian Visscher rounded out the top three with a 23.01.
King Aquatic’s Zachary Wagner dashed to victory in the men’s 50 free. Wagner finished with a time of 20.28. Aulea Swim Club’s Aukai Lileikis claimed second with a 20.40, while King Aquatic’s Thomas Anderson took third with a 20.41.
The Fort Collins 400 medley relay team of Zoe Bartel (55.66), Bailey Kovac (1:02.61), Nero (54.32) and Elise Forzley (51.45) finished the meet with a strong first place finish of 3:44.04. King Aquatic Club (3:46.28) and Bellevue (3:47.16) finished second and third respectively.
The men’s 400 medley relay team of Thomas Anderson (48.77), Mitchell Hovis (55.83), Mathias Oh (48.71) and Wagner (45.26) claimed the gold with a time of 3:18.57. Bellevue finished second with a 3:21.85, while Fort Collins touched with a 3:23.19 for third.
