Women coaches? Still waiting for women to be represented. And not just 1!
Only two female coaches?
I thought there supposed to be 26 men and 26 women on the team. Can someone explain how the final team was chosen?
The additional names are for the open water swimming (not the pool).
There are only 25 men, including one in the 10K open water, because (a) only 25 different men finished in qualifying positions (top 6 in the 100 Free and 200 Free; top 2 in the other events), and (b) FINA only allows 12 swimmers that will be only in relays (men and women combined), and USA had 13, so one of the men was left out.
Two questions:
1. When did Jake Mitchell get a qualifying time in the 400 Free? I thought the only two that had it were Kieran Smith and Zane Grothe. Doesn’t USA Swimming have to wait until FINA announces the “wild cards” (June 30, I think) before knowing who swims in the men’s 400 Free?
2. The selection process document says that, when deciding among the 6th place finishers which ones qualify if including all of them exceeds the 12 “relay-only swimmers” limit, they are chosen in modified World Rankings order (“modified” being taking the rankings between 3/1/2019 and 6/7/2021 and including times swim in the corresponding finals). How did Ryan Held get left out?
Jake qualified at a time trial later the following night. Good question about Ryan Held!
What to go Lydia!!!!
