Texas’s Carson Foster, Emma Sticklen Named Big 12 Newcomers of the Week
Texas standouts Carson Foster and Emma Sticklen were named the Newcomers of the Week Tuesday in the Big 12’s weekly honors.
Both swimmers competed at the Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational last weekend. Foster won three individual events and was part of two victorious relays. He earned an individual NCAA A cut in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:38.89 and anchored the Longhorns’ 800 freestyle relay in an A-cut time of 6:07.34.
Foster also won the 200 IM in 1:41.98 and the 200 back in 1:40.39 while taking part in the winning 400 free relay. It’s the third time this season Foster has won the award, claiming it in Week 2 and Week 4 of the fall season.
Sticklen was recognized by the conference for the first time after standout performances in the butterfly events at the Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational. She finished second in the 100 fly in 51.49, the third-fastest time in program history and a top-5 time in the nation this season. In the 200, Sticklen finished third in 1:54.43, sixth in program history and eighth in the nation.
Due to limited competition on the schedule this week, the conference did not name divers or swimmers of the week.
