Texas A&M Women, Tennessee Men Victorious in Four-Team Meet

COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team and Tennessee men’s swimming and diving team each picked up two wins Thursday night at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium, with the Aggie women topping Tennessee (177.5-110.5) and SMU (174-112) and the Tennessee men beating Texas A&M (184-115) and Missouri State (210-89) in a four-team meet at College Station.

Sarah Henry led the way for the Aggies, posting the fastest time in a trio of events — the 200 fly (1:59.95), 500 free (4:46.65) and 200 IM (2:00.30) — while three others picked up two wins apiece. Sammie Bosma touched first in the 50 free (22.62) and 100 free (49.43), Beryl Gastaldello topped the 100 back (54.56) and 100 fly (54.32) and Maddie Hudkins ruled the diving well with scores of 305.30 in the 1-meter and 318.40 in the 3-meter.

Gastaldello and Bosma also swam legs on the Aggies’ winning 200 medley relay, as they joined Sycerika McMahon and Sarah Gibson to touch first in 1:39.15, just ahead of Tennessee’s 1:39.68. Gibson (200 free, 1:48.09) and Lisa Bratton (200 back, 1:57.36) also won individual events for the Aggies.

Molly Hannis led the Tennessee contingent with two wins in the 100 breast (1:01.04) and 200 breast (2:09.89), while Madeline Tegner added a win in the 1000 free at 9:56.44. Harper Bruens, Patricia Forrester, Alex Cleveland and Amanda Carner gave the Volunteers a win in the final 400 free relay as they put together a 3:24.08.

On the men’s side, Tennessee opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as the B team of Jimmy Dagley, Tristan Slater, Jacob Thulin and Troy Tillman posted a 1:29.34 to edge the Tennessee A relay of Sean Lehane, Ross Dibblin, Gustav Aberg Ledjstrom and Chris Sadsad (1:29.59). Ben Miller claimed a second straight win for the Volunteers with his 9:21.76 in the 1000 free.

Texas A&M’s Luke Shaw broke up the Tennessee win streak with a 1:39.18 in the 200 free before Sean Lehane (100 back, 48.09), Tristan Slater (100 breast, 55.36), Sam McHugh (200 fly, 1:46.30) and Troy Tillman (50 free, 20.32) won four straight for Tennessee. McHugh ended up winning three events at the meet, adding wins in the 200 back (1:46.26) and 200 IM (1:48.33), while Slater topped the 200 breast in 1:59.47 to sweep the breaststroke events.

Jacob Thulin (100 fly, 48.32) and Mauricio Robles (3-meter diving, 388.90) also won events for Tennessee, while Tyler Henschel (1-meter diving, 363.85), Jacob Gonzales (100 free, 45.15) and Gonzalo Carazo Barbero (500 free, 4:32.56) contributed wins for Texas A&M. Tennessee’s Troy Tillman, Gustav Aberg Ledjstrom, Jimmy Dagley and Ryan Coetzee won the 400 free relay in 2:59.64 to wrap up the meet.
