Texas Women, TCU Men Sweep Big 12 Weekly Honors

The Texas women’s squad and TCU men swept the six awards given out in the latest batch of Big 12 weekly honors on Wednesday.

Anna Elendt was named the swimmer of the week, joined by Longhorn diver Hailey Hernandez and newcomer Erica Sullivan. On the men’s side, Dusan Babic took home swimmer of the week for the Horned Frogs. David Ekdahl was the top diver, while Jadon Wuilliez was the top newcomer.

Texas spent the weekend on a road swing through North Carolina, topping NC State and the University of North Carolina. Elendt set an NC State pool record in the women’s 100 breaststroke at 59.25 seconds, then did the same at UNC in 58.08. The German also won the 200 breast against NC State and was part of the winning 200 medley relay against UNC. It’s Elendt’s third Big 12 Swimmer of the Week honor.

Hernandez finished in the top two in all four diving events on the weekend to earn her fifth Diver of the Week nod this season. The freshman won the 1-meter springboard against NC State with a score of 344.95, setting a pool record. She was second in the 3-meter against NC State and second in both diving events against UNC.

Sullivan, the Tokyo Olympic silver medalist, is a second-time winner. She won the 1,000 free in 9:49.25 and was second in the 500 free against NC State. She sped up to 9:40.86 to win the 1,000 against UNC, her second-fastest time of the season.

TCU claimed a victory over Incarnate Word with Babic, the native of Serbia, leading the way. He won the 100 free in 45.29, the 500 free in 4:37.87 and was part of the Horned Frogs victorious 200 free relay. Joining him on that relay was Wuilliez, who also won the 100 breast (56.45) and swam on a winning 200 medley relay. It’s Wuilliez’s second Big 12 weekly honor of the season.

Ekdahl won both diving events of Incarnate Word. He scored 313.45 on 1-meter and 328.10 on 3-meter, both NCAA Zone cuts. The freshman is the Big 12 Diver of the Week for the third time.
