TEXAS WINS MEDLEY RELAY
The University of Texas finished out a banner first day at the men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships by winning the 400 meter medley relay in US Open record time.
The team of Tom Hannan, Russell Chozick, Nate Dusing and Bryan Jones finished in 3:31.23, over six seconds faster than Stanford's 1987 mark of 3:37.36. In fact, the top seven teams were all under the old record. Tennessee was second in 3:32.22, Auburn was third in 3:32.69, Virginia was fourth in 3:33.47, Southern Cal was fifth in 3:33.85, Stanford was sixth in 3:35.06, Arizona was seventh in 3:35.48 and Minnesota was eighth in 3:38.24.
The win placed Texas solidly in first going into the second day, with 173 points to Auburn's 151. Arizona is in third with 114.5, California in fourth with 100, Stanford in fifth with 88, Southern Cal sixth with 80, Tennessee seventh with 77 and Minnesota eighth with 63.
